Star Wars: The Force Awakens

NO SPOILERS! PROMISE!!

There are a few good things about living in Australia and I don't just mean our gun control laws and universal health care. Another good thing is that when a movie has a world wide release date, we are one of the countries that get to see it pretty darn early thanks to Thursdays being our release day, and our cushy time zone.

Right now it's 3:26 in the AM and I have no idea how I'm going to get to sleep.

JJ Abrams (Hallowed Be Thy Name) has done a frikken awesome job with Episode Seven. The worries of Eps 1,2, and 3 are long forgotten and the Storm Troopers no longer have Kiwi accents! It's like those three films never existed.

JJ shot this on film, real film, and this is probably the smartest thing anyone has done in the history of everything. Everything looks REAL. He's gone CGI-Lite (trademark pending). There are none of those stupid CGI twisty, bouncy, twirly fight scenes that riddled 1,2, and 3. It's all very grounded.

 North Korea much?

I'm not going into the plot - I don't need a whole community of nerds bashing on my door - but I will say it feels very familiar. JJ, Lawrence Kasdan, and Michael Ardnt have definitely returned to the roots of the original saga. Even the humour that was in 4,5, and 6 is back. This one is frikken hilarious! Lots of laughs, lots of claps.

The cast is just great, I love Adam Driver as Kylo Ren. The chemistry between John Boyega (Finn) and Daisy Ridley (Rea) is brilliant. There are a few familiar faces too!

I saw it in 3D which was fine, but they, whomever 'they' are, still haven't really got this thing worked out. The edges of the screen are blurry and the focus is off. Hopefully they'll have this fixed up by the time 8 comes along. But yes, I will be seeing it in 2D as well because the universe needs balance.

I WANT ONE!!

It's now 3:45am and I'm going to pop a couple of valium to help me go to sleep... after I watch this vid a few more times

Things I learnt: JJ Abrams IS the Force; no one ever learns from the past; handrails are a must have in any work place.

Ten out of ten.
Obviously.

  1. I want one too! And we thought R2 was cute! The absolute best roller coaster Star Wars fun I've had in over thirty years. TBH, I think you've restrained yourself immensely here! What I noticed the most. Not a single word was uttered during the film in the theatre. All I heard was gasps, laughter and cheers. :) That's when you know it was a 10/10 film. Especially when everyone emerges so pumped and smiling. :) I will go again and probably again. MJ

  3. Very nice review young lady. I'm very impressed you were able to write it at that time of night/morning. I caught a midnight screening of it too and was unable to string a sentence together after watching it let alone write.
