Top flicks of the Noughties - 2009

**still under construction**

2012
Roland Emmerich destroys the world... again. And it looks pretty darn good. Review here.

500 Days of Summer
Such a cute movie with Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It's like Doctor Who directed a love story.

Angels and Demons
Ron Howard manages to both disappoint us and educate us at the same time. That takes skill.

Avatar 3D
Speechless. But not blogless...

Bronson
Thomas Hardy (bad dude from Star Trek X) gets ten thumbs up and a couple of black eyes for playing Charles Bronson (no, not that Charles Bronson). Bronson is Britain's most famous prisoner, well infamous I guess. He is constantly beating people up and getting the shit kicked out of him. He went in to jail for seven years and came out thirty years later! As violent as this film is, it is oh so much fun. Hardy packs on the pounds and grows a moustache only a mother could love. A must see.

The Brothers Bloom
Well thought out con job flick with Mark Ruffalo and Adrien Brody.

Capitalism: A Love Story
Michael Moore takes us to the bank. Read me review here.

Coraline 3D
Pure brilliance. You must see it in 3D. Review here.

Crank 2
Somehow Jason Statham survives falling out of a helicopter and runs around like a nut again. I hear there's a third one in the works...

District 9
Wow. Neil Blomkamp blew my socks off with this one. I had to see it twice. Review here.

Drag Me To Hell
Sam Raimi teaches us to be nice to old Gypsy women, especially if the come asking us for a bank loan. Alison Lohman is a stand out as hell-bound Christine. Nice to have Sam doing horror again.

Echelon Conspiracy
Muck like Eagle Eye. People should just stop sticking their noses into other mad organisation's businesses.

Fanboys
Would you go on a road trip to break into George Lucas ranch to see the at-the-time-unseen cut of Star Wars Episode 1? Hell yeah! Then I'd hit my head a few times to get the voice of Jar Jar Binks out of my brain. Seth Rogen is so good he plays two parts!

Funny People
Quite a long flick but a good one. Adam Sandler finds out he's gonna die and when other people would re-evaluate their lives, he keeps on doing the same thing. More Seth Rogen with Jason Schwartzman and Eric Bana.

Gamer
Michael C Hall makes a game where you can control death row inmates. Kinda like Doom but with real people. There's a great song and dance number to Frank Sinatra's 'Under My Skin'. Hall is... well, just lovely. Gerard Butler is pretty good too. Milo Ventimiglia on the other hand is just plain creepy.

The Goods: Live Hard Sell Hard
Jeremy Piven as a head of a crack team of used car salesmen? Fantastic.

The Hangover
Super funny bro-show. Zach Galifianakis is one of my heroes now. Bradley Cooper is as fine as ever.

Horsemen
Dark film about a group of serial killers calling themselves the Four Horsemen (of the Apocalypse kind). Dennis Quaid pieces things together. I did see the ending coming though...

I Love You, Man
Another top bro-show. Those boys keep pumping them out don't they. That's fine by me.

Inglourious Basterds
Tarantino shows us exactly what happened in WW2. All that other stuff was made up. Introduces the world to Christoph Waltz as Col. Hans 'It's a bingo!' Landa. What a bloody magnificent film!!

The Invention of Lying
Only saw this the other day. Very impressive cast. The opening scene was a wee bit awkward. Was expecting a bit more from Ricky Gervais but I still love him.

Jennifer's Body
Diablo Cody writes a horror and puts Megan Fox in it. She doesn't ruin it so that's a plus. Cody's writing is awe-inspiring.

The Lovely Bones
(insert review here once seen)

Moon
More Sam Rockwell than you can poke a stick at. Not that you'd want to poke a stick at him. Top flick. Review here.

Night At The Museum 2
Lots of laughs like the first one. Cameos a plenty!

Observe and Report
Kinda awkward and disturbing Seth Rogen and Anna Ferris flick... hmmm...

Paranormal Activity
Still haven't turned the lights off. Frikken awsome! Review here.

Public Enemies
Put Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in a couple of suits with some guns and see what happens. Review here.

Sherlock Holmes
So very good and there's a sequel afoot!

Star Trek XI
Thank you Mr Abrams for putting Star Trek back on the big screen and breaking the odd numbered flick curse. I don't care if it was all in a parallel universe, it was darn good.

Taken
Liam Neeson goes all bad-ass and tries to find his kidnapped daughter.

Taking of Pelham 123
John Travolta has a hair line that gives me the heebee-jeebees.

Terminator 4
Christian Bale still thinks he's Batman and talks in a gruff voice. Sam Worthington shows us why James Cameron loves him so.

Transformers 2
Hmm... still liked the first one better. Things were bigger and louder in this one but do spare some money for the script!

The Ugly Truth
Gerard Butler does a rom-com. Must admit I was waiting for him to kick Katherine Heigel into a ditch.

The Vampire's Assistant (aka Cirque Du Freak)
(insert review filled with how much I love John C Reilly here)

Watchmen
The directors cut is about five days long but totally worth it. Rorschach was amazing. Veidt was right.

Whatever Works
Woody Allen finds a friend in Larry David. Lots and lots and lots of words!

Whip It
Hot dang. Review here.

Wolverine
Hmmm.. a bit faffy in parts. Ryan Reynolds as Dead Pool made my feet tingle.

Zombieland
OMFGROFLMAO and all that other stuff. Review here. Funniest flick of the year.
