Our little 'home-skillet' from Juno is growing up. Ellen Page is certainly making her mark as the quirky 'It-Girl' of the moment. I thought it was really good casting Juliette Lewis, not so long ago she was that quirky It Girl of the nineties, perhaps she's passing the proverbial torch in this flick. Page has already done a few anti-blockbusters and even played a homicidal nut-job in Hard Candy, much like Lewis in Natural Born Killers. I just hope that Page doesn't go all Scientology-ish like Lewis has! All she needs to do now is date Brad Pitt...
From the moment I saw Zoe Bell on the screen I knew there was going to be some serious hurt For those who don't know Bell's work, she was briefly on Lost (that chick on the Freighter who jumped off the side carrying all those heavy chains) and she played herself in Tarantino's half of Grindhouse - Death Proof. She was the one on top of the car bonnet!).
Barrymore was fantastic as Smashley Simpson, hit in the head a few too many times and sounding more and more like a footballer! Alia Shawkat has come a long way since playing Maeby Funke on Arrested Development and plays a great BFF, Pash.
Things we've learnt from Whip It...
if you love doing something - be the best at it;
you can never wear too much eyeliner;
and even though your Mum's ideas might suck big time, she does mean well.
