Four Lions

Writer/director Christopher Morris (Big Train) teams up with fellow writers Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain (both from Peep Show) to bring into the world a comedy about a group of wannabe Jihadi Islamic terrorists who are so inept even Mr Bean could teach them a thing or two.
Omar (Riz Ahmed - Centurion) and Waj (Kayvan Novak - Syriana) are part of a homegrown British terrorist cell. They're invited to go to a terrorist training camp in Pakistan where, after a misunderstanding with a bazooka, they quickly return home.
Reunited with Islam convert Barry (Nigel Lindsay - Silent Witness), paranoid box wearer Fessal (Adeel Akhtar - Traitor) and rapper Hassan (Arsher Ali - Pulse) the group plan to be suicide bombers and blow something up but they can't decide what. Barry wants to blow up a Mosque to enrage fellow Muslims into retaliating against the Westerners (even though it means blowing up all the Muslims in the Mosque...). Waj wants to blow up the internet. After much deliberation, they decide on an attack on the London Marathon. Their only problem is getting there alive without blowing themselves up before hand.
I must admit I wasn't sure about watching this film. Whenever there are 'love it or hate it' reviews I'm usually on the sceptical side. Not this time.
Granted Four Lions insensitive and pokes fun at extremists who have killed lots of people in the name of religion but on the other side it's frikken hilarious. The constant stuff ups and the 'blooper reels' from these guys recording their hate messages are fantastic. Like when Fessal attaches explosives to a crow (pictured) and tells it instructions in English as if the crow understands what he's saying. Waj taking a photo of himself with his phone to see if he's wearing his confused face or not.
Performances all round are superb. Morris and Co. have done a brilliant job with a script that is well timed and laugh out loud funny.
You have to stop and think about that guy who tried to bring down a plane with a bomb in his underpants not too long ago. Can you imagine having that initial thought of putting a BOMB in your UNDERPANTS? "Hey guys, I've got a great idea..." This movie amplifies that thought to infinity plus one.
Puts the FUN and the MENTAL back into fundamental.
Can't wait to watch it again.
Nine out of ten.
